Just a few simple ingredients are needed to make these easy (and healthy!) dessert bites — dark chocolate, peanut butter, and bananas.
If you’re like me and you love chocolate…and peanut butter…and easy desserts, this recipe is a win! Plus, no baking!
I love these chocolate covered bananas because I can have just one, or a few to satisfy any chocolate craving with the bonus of some whole fruit and healthy nut butter.
Dark chocolate goes well with bananas, while peanut butter adds extra creaminess and depth to these frozen dessert bites. I love to sprinkle a little bit of chopped peanuts on top for extra crunch.
My BEST tip for you when making these is to freeze your bananas FIRST. All you’ll need to do is slice your banana and place the slices flat on a silpat or parchment lined baking sheet then place them in your freezer for about an hour to freeze.
Once they’re frozen, you can melt your chocolate and set up a little assembly line to put them together. This would be a great easy recipe for kids to help out with too!
To start, pull together your ingredients and equipment.
- dark chocolate
- coconut oil
- peanut butter
- optional: chopped peanuts
- microwaveable bowl
- cutting board
- fork and spoon
- measuring cups and spoons
- nonstick baking mat or parchment paper
- baking sheet
Once you’ve gathered all of your ingredients and equipment, you are ready to go.
Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl along with the coconut oil, and microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. Place the bowl back in the microwave and heat for another 15 seconds, then stir. You can continue this for 15 at a time, stirring in between each trip into the microwave until the chocolate is melted (mine took about 60 seconds total until it was melted).
From there, your assembly line will go like this: spread a little peanut butter on a frozen banana slice, coat in chocolate, place on silpat, and (if you like) sprinkle with chopped peanuts.
If you are adding the chopped peanuts, I’d recommend adding these after each banana slice is coated with chocolate – if you wait too long the chocolate will harden quickly and the peanuts won’t stick.
One good thing about using frozen banana slices is the chocolate sets pretty quickly over the banana slices. If you find your bowl of chocolate getting too thick to coat, just pop it back in the microwave for a few seconds and stir, then continue on with the peanut butter and chocolate layers.
And that’s it! Just keep up the steps until you’ve covered all the banana slices. Afterwards, just pop them back into the freezer to store for at least 30 minutes.
I like to store these in an airtight container in the freezer with a small sheet of parchment between layers.
When you want to, just grab one or two from the freezer. You can even make a batch as an easy party dessert.
The recipe here is written for one banana, but you can always scale up if needed…because one batch likely won’t last very long…at least it doesn’t in our house!

Just a few simple ingredients are all you need for this tasty and healthy dessert — frozen banana slices topped with peanut butter and coated in dark chocolate. This is an easy and delicious no bake dessert recipe.
1 banana, sliced into about 18 slices
3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
1/2 Tbsp coconut oil
1 1/2 Tbsp peanut butter
1 Tbsp crushed or chopped peanuts
- Place a nonstick silicone baking mat or parchment paper onto a baking sheet.
- Slice banana into about 18 slices and place flat on the lined baking sheet.
- Place baking sheet in freezer for about 1 hour until banana slices are frozen through.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and coconut oil. Heat in microwave for 30 seconds, then remove and stir.
- If chocolate is not melted, continue heating in microwave for 15 seconds, stirring again. Repeat in 15 second increments, stirring in between, until chocolate is melted.
- Remove banana slices from freezer.
- Spread a thin layer of peanut butter over each banana slice.
- Place one peanut butter topped banana slice flat on a fork, and set this into the bowl of melted chocolate. Use a spoon to coat the banana slice with chocolate. Remove coated banana and place back onto the lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle coated banana slice with chopped peanuts (if using).
- repeat with remaining banana slices until all are coated.
- Place baking sheet back into freezer for at least 30 minutes to set chocolate.
- Store in an airtight continer in the freezer.
Freeze bananas for about an hour before coating with peanut butter and chocolate.
If your melted chocolate starts to thicken, place bowl back in microwave and heat for 15 seconds to remelt chocolate.
If topping with peanuts, I suggest doing this right after you coat each slice with chocolate – if not the chocolate may harden too quickly for the peanuts to stick.
